CommentsRe: chain lubes. You should try the Finish line Krytech wax based chain lube. It works really well, makes the chain real smooth and quiet and sheds mud and grime like shite of a shovel / water off a duck's back etc. The best thing is in UK winter conditions when you've sprayed all the mud and crap of your bike with the hose in the back garden - the chain doesn't lose all it's lube and rust up in 12 hours. Like you, I use the Sedis chain with the slots - on XTR /XT shimano on a Proflex 856. The chain doesn't need the special pin to rejoin if it breaks on the trail, it's light and and stays relatively rust free. If your'e going to use the Krytech wax lube, you must completely degrease and clean the chain first. Spend some time building up the Krytech on the chain for a few dark winter evenings before your first winter ride. If it's cold in the garage / shed / work shop stick the bottle in boiling water first to make it easier to apply and get better link penetration. last advantage is that it's very clean - no more black cahin marks on your clothing, black hands when working on the bike etc. Good luck - good site - keep up the good work Best regards, mark

Commentsif you really want to be hot this winter, then get yourself a decent road bike.....find out what those muscles in your legs were really made for!! not just twiddling a 22 tooth chain ring up some muddy hill, try a 53 tooth up a 1 in 5 climb in deepest darkest cornwall this winter. i promise it will put muscles on yer muscles...then come early season races you will be on the middle ring , out of the saddle & honking up those hills no problem...take a tip from someone who knows....although i dont race so much any more!!!!

CommentsWhat is hot? Hot is trail riding, the type that makes your life hell going up, down and around and especially over!!! The trails in Whistler/Squamish and Vancouver are the best for more reasons than this 1. the scenary 2.difficulty/technical nature 3.variety
CommentsNice site, but I was just wondering if you were planning on adding a links page, and if you are, would you like to exchange links wit me. My site has only been up about a week, but my hits are increasing daily, so I'm looking for people to swap links with. Thanx, Dave.
CommentsWhy are mountain bikes banned from quite a few walkways/bridle paths. I have been told the reason is erosion of the path from our wheels. Have you seen the state of the bridle paths after horsey people have trampled them beyond all recognition.Ride fast aim for puddles. L8R :-)
CommentsThe Peak District= Lots of good rides around HOPE Head out of hope then left after the cafe up the roman road across to ladybower. You should come along one saturday with the J E James Cycling group. Scotland Argyll= I recently lived in this area and found some of the best mountain biking in britain. The best route is called the loch orr circuit. It starts at a small village called Auchandrain between Inverary and Furnace and basically does a circuit which goes accross to loch Orr and back PERFECT!!!!! I know an American racer who comes over from Moab every year to train he say's its the best mountain biking he's ever seen. The terrain is rough. Also In LAke District Black Sail Pass is a popular route. If you want a giuded tour of the peak distict E-mail me and we will arange something. James Brown
CommentsMTB'd in a lot of countries: Spain, France, Turkey, Jordan, USA (Winter Park!), Costa Rica, Italy, Morocco, Portugal. Been to Morocco 5 times now, going back in about 2 or 3 weeks time. It is MTB heaven (No traffic, beautiful Moutains, very different culture, and thousands of miles of virtually unexplored MTB'ing)........ Interesting Site Nick, well done
Commentswhats hot: the Karrimor Trail at Coed y Brenin(its very brilliant and very knackering!). Riding down Snowdon is very good too, unless your brother falls off and is unable to ride so you have to get down to the car then run half way back up and ride down on your brother's bike in the dark which is what i had to do!!! whats not: Panaracer Duster tyres coz i got about 3 punctures per ride.

CommentsI agree that mythos xc tyres are good for 3 seasons of the year, Have you tried carpet tile adhesive to stick your grips in place. It holds v. firm and is easiy removed using hair spray. The new Marzocchi forks are even better than the old ones super smooth and with more progression so there is no need to raise the oil height, still a bit on the heavy side.Goretex cables are only really needed on the back so one set can be stretched to do two bikes, or the cost can be shared with a freind
CommentsWell if have not been to coed-y-brenin for a while you should go back NOW !!! they have built more technical section's on the red bull ,karrimor,MBR pink heifer They are as good as the last section on the red bull. And they have built the new duel decender its good for the nutters.
CommentsUniversity of central england MTB club will be hot when i get it set up

CommentsWhat's hot? My new Orange Sub 5, that's what. The best bike i have ever ridden by far. I can't rave enough about it and have bored everyone i know to death. If anyone wants to know anything about it just e-mail me. Cables in the review section, try XTR cables if anyone hasn't found any they are 100% happy with, i think they're the nuts.
CommentsIf any1 is going to buy a first mtb <£300, get a GT Aggressor, the breaks squeak when wet & the tires r shite but the frame + fork are great for the price - £260

CommentsDarc multi lense glasses are really cool, they are cheap - great if you tend to breack them often and the Yellow lense is brillant at changing this years dull summer into a bright one. The only problem is the surreal effect they have if you take them off in a dark forest. It seemed as if the bike and myself had shrunk and riding just got alot harder! either that or the effects of dehydration had cut in!

Commentsdown hill course at combe sydenham amazing
CommentsAny one who, like me, loves to jump, dual slalom, xc should know about this place... it's called PORC (Penshurst Off Road Centre) and it's in Penshurst, In Kent. It costs a couple of quid for the day, and it's well worth it. the dual course is awesome, 10 foot burms, massive doubles and tabletops. Theres an old quarry to practice jumping, and loads of other courses. give it a try

CommentsWomen on bikes in lycra....first off! On the bike side of things Michelin tyres kicks ass, even the really cheap ones. They hug the ground like no ones business, you can really zip round the corners. Archrival brakes, although slightly over priced are go for stopping.
CommentsHave you tried the Helvellyn ridge route starting from Ullswater up over Matterdale common and then along the ridge. Finally coming down the old miners track to Glenriding. I would seriously recommended it. Takes about 4 hours. |
